| ART4FREEDOM meaning: |
My ART4FREEDOM shows my support for freedom and to America's most disenfranchised and under-represented groups, those who identify as Black and/or as part of the LGBTQIA community. As a Black artist, I stand in solidarity with those who have struggled and died for the rights that the U.S. Constitution promised but never delivered: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Sam Cooke's "A Change Gonna Come" depicts living a long and hard life, only slightly less frightening than death itself. That is the unfortunate reality for many. My flags are a nod to the struggle; yet they also symbolize hope. Cooke says, "I know a change gon' come" and I agree. But first, we must acknowledge and believe that Black lives matter, Black LGBTQIA lives matter, and that Black art and dreams matter. Together we can enact change and transform this nation for the better. IAM4FREEDOM!
